I think this is going to take alot of people by surprise. The topic of slaughter has gone around and around everywhere: websites, facebook, forums, etc.

How people are going to respond to this is anyones guess. The one way to find out how this is going to be responded to, is when this all takes effect.

Anit slaughter groups have wanted slaughter stopped but can you see the Government taking a $ 100 million hit in the agriculture industry? We've been hit with bird flu, swine flu, BSE, chronic wasting disease.

Well looks like maybe there'll be alot more horses joining the ranks out there in the herds of Sundre....don't ya think? It's already a problem for horse owners to be responsible without Goverment hammers over their heads, now this?! I get the whole thing, not a problem, trying to treat horse meat production like the rest of the meat going through, pork, chicken, beef, although the rest of what is regulated and treated is far from the same. Do we as horse owners get the same breaks as the cattle producers? So they want it regulated, the EUROPEANS, as such but in every other aspect it is not regulated as such, this confuses me?! They're our horses, our pets, and slaughter is our option, and well maybe in the end of it, maybe should be a bullet and a nice graveside and tombstone that we can visit! I'm not sure how I feel on all of this anymore! Seems like just alot of money to the Gov. in some way. I mean I see the good that will come outta of it, forced health care of the horses now if they intend to auction or slaughter, potential buyers may have some records, but I'm just not sure how this will actually all roll out as all intended.
